I know this poem is from a little boy, and I am a "little girl," but
it reminds me of the high ideals Dad stood for and his effort to treat
people with respect. The photo is probably at graduation from Bryant Stratton
Business School in Buffalo, NY, around 1921. He then worked at an alkaline
plant at Buffalo and suffered a broken back in an explosion at the plant.
After a miraculous recovery, he taught bookkeeping and accounting at a
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp near Coudersport. Later he became
office manager and chief accountant at the Murray-Page Chevrolet-Oldsmobile
dealership in Olean, remaining there through ownership changes until his
retirement. He was active in the Olean Theater Group which also performed
on radio. When you hear the name "Bentley" in talking about automobiles,
you think of "class." That's how I think of my Dad as a person -
"class."
