THOMAS E. MCCAFFERY - loving husband, father and grandfather
Allegany, NY - Thomas E. McCaffery, of 1986 Four Mile Road, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (Aug 28, 2014) shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital.
Born Dec. 22, 1933, in Olean, he was the son of Edward V. and Verma Clark McCaffery. On Oct. 2, 1954, in St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, he married Anita B. Helmert, who survives.
Mr. McCaffery was a 1951 graduate of Allegany High School and early in his career he worked for the former Clark Brothers Co., in the drafting department. He then was self-employed in the tree service business and later operated McCaffery Septic Service. He also worked for several years for the Village of Allegany prior to his retirement.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and formerly volunteered for the Allegany Fire Department. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and shooting.
Surviving besides his wife are two children, Jeffrey (Teresa) McCaffery of Allegany and David (Deborah) McCaffery of Titusville, Fla., 18 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
He was predeceased by a son, Daniel McCaffery and a daughter, Linda McCaffery-Crisafulli.
There will be no visitation. A private funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com
