PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla - Elizabeth M. "Betty" Waldorf, 79, of Port Charlotte, passed away Wednesday (July 16, 2014) at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
She was born Oct 17, 1934, in Chicago, Ill. to John and Mary Sokolowski Gaul, and grew up in Olean, NY. After graduating St. Elizabeth's Academy, she attended St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Brooklyn, NY. Betty enjoyed all types of nursing, as long as she was helping others. She was last employed at South Beach Psychiatric Hospital for more than 20 years. Betty worked as a nurse for 46 years, retiring in 200l to Port Charlotte.
She enjoyed reading books, sitting outside, Jazz music and old movies, but most of all, looking at pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty also liked going to the movies and eating out. She was loved by many and will be missed.
She is survived by her loving family, including her daughters, Laura (Geraldo) Olivo of Port Charlotte and Karen Waldorf of Garwood, NJ; two sons, Larry (Angie) Waldorf of Staten Island, NY and Mark Waldorf of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Mary Kay (Roger) Deal of Berlin Center, Ohio and Judy (John) Deiner of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother the Very Rev Thomas J. Gaul of Hope Mills, NC, James (Rebecca) Gaul of Arlington, Va., John Gaul of Lumberton, NC, and Patrick (Kathryn) Gaul of Atlanta; grandchildren, Selina Hughes, Geraldo Olivo III, Robert Olivo, Anthony Balzano and Alyssa Keane; and great-grandchildren, Cadance Hughes and Sophia Olivo.
Visitation was held July 22 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 23, 2014, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Port Charlotte. Entombment was at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
