Cuba ó Elizabeth Ann Simons of 9068 Jackson Hill Road, and a former resident of Dalton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday (Feb. 1, 2013) in the Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton.
She was born on March 15, 1924, in the Town of Rushford, a daughter of the late Philip and Louisa Harris Preston. On Aug. 31, 1943, she married Eldyn B. Simons, who predeceased her on Feb. 4, 2012.
Mrs. Simons was a graduate of Houghton Academy and was valedictorian of her class. She was a graduate of Houghton College and received her Masterís Degree from Geneseo State College and went on to teach elementary school for 16 years. She taught 2nd and 4th grades at Perry Central School, Keshequa Central School at Dalton.
She was a devoted teacher, a gracious pastorís wife and most of all a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren learned many things from her, including the names of birds and plants and how to bake cookies. Her cinnamon rolls and baked beans are unsurpassed.
Surviving are four daughters, Judith (Neal) Frey of Longview, Texas, Sharon (Brian) Stewart of Hazard, Ky., Faith (Lee) Stewart of Cuba, and Ellyn (Paul) Sanna of Vestal; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred (Delores) Preston of West Seneca, and Ernie Preston of Centerville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Philip Eldyn Simons; a sister, Edith M. Redman; and a sister-in-law, Ila M. Preston.
Family and friends may gather at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee St., Fillmore, on Monday (Feb. 4, 2013) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2013) at 11 a.m. in the Houghton Wesleyan Church. Emily Sanna, granddaughter of Elizabeth, and Roy Devries of Bellville Wesleyan Church will co-officiate.
Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Dalton.
