Zygmond J. "Ziggy" Slevinski
Allegany - Zygmond J. "Ziggy" Slevinski, of 3167 Maple Ave. Ext., passed away Monday (Jan 21, 2013) at Olean General Hospital.
Born Dec. 31, 1917, in Olean, he was a son of Kaiser and Anna Kozub Slevinski. On Spet 20, 1944, in Salamanca, he married Theresa Nickola, who survives.
Mr. Slevinski was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946, serving during World War II. He was employed at the former Daystrom's Furniture and later for AVX in Olean.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and a life member of the Pulaski Club. Mr. Slevinski enjoyed playing baseball, coaching softball, bowling, bingo and pinochle, enjoyed spending time with his family the most. He also was an avid Notre Dame fan.
Surviving besdies his wife are four children, Marie Carver of Daytona Beach, Fla., Thomas John (Mary Lynn) Slevinski of Davenport, Fla,Stanislaus (Sara) Slevinski of South Bend, Ind. and Susan (Mark) Bowen of Holly Hills, Fla;grandchildren, Lindsay, Zygmond and Richard; one great-granddaughter, Cameryn Noel Slevinski; one sister, Irene Kukulka; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predecieased by three brothers, Edward, Chester and Casimer; and two sisters, Stela and Julia.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road. Funeral services will be held Saturday (Jan 26, 2013) beginning with a 12:30 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home and followed by a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church. The Rev. James Vacco, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
