LEASE FOREMAN KILLED WHEN STRUCK BY AUTOMOBILE ON ROCK CITY ROAD
Funeral services for Ralph Bly, forty years old, of Oil Valley, who was killed Sunday morning (September 6, 1942) when he was struck by an automobile on the Olean-Bradford highway between Knapp Creek and Rock City, will be held Wednesday afternoon ( September 9th, 1942) at the late home on the Duke Center Road.
The Rev. Melvin Sickler, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Bradford, will officiate. Burial will be in Shinglehouse Cemetery.
Mr. Bly was a lease foreman for the Kinley Oil Company, with which he had benn employed for twenty years.
According to New York State police, who investigated Mr. Bly was walking south, about two miles from the Pennsylvania state line at one forty-five o'clock Sunday morning when he was struck by a south bound car driven by William Bova, also of Oil Valley.
Coroner C. J. Heamer of Olean said death was instantaneous. He said Mr. Bly was thrown into a ditch beside the road and that he suffered a fractured spine and other injuries. A certificate of accidental death wa issued today. The state policemen who investigated were Troopers Dan Biley and J. W. Laurence.
Mr. Bly is survived by his widow, Emma; five daughters, Ardelia, Doris, Evelyn, Shirley and Dorothy; three sons, Warren, Ralph, Jr., and Robert; His parents Mr. and Mrs. William Bly of Singlehouse; and a brother, Dr. Loren Bly of Cuba, now stationed in West Virginia with the US Army.
