HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Eleanor Knorr Lanphear Darmody, 90, a former resident of Wellsville, passed away Sept. 15, 2011 at the Ella Smither Geriatric Center in Huntsville, Texas.

She was born in Brockway, Pa. on May 12, 1921, to Harry and Fern Closser Knorr.

She grew up in Angelica and graduated from Angelica High School in 1938. Eleanor held numerous jobs in Wellsville prior to moving to Houston, Texas in 1967. Eleanor moved to Huntsville, Texas in 2006.

Survivors include four daughters, Barbara (Robert) Piscitelli of Wellsville, Beverly (Lance) Bennett of Batavia, Nancy (Dick) Mills of Huntsville, Texas., and Judith (Bill) Wiemann of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Debbie Pinney, Lisa Arnone, Dean Piscitelli, Kelly Bennett, Krista Gibbs, Kurt Bennett, Dennis Mills, Doug Mills, Jackie Valastro, Gus Garza and Larry Manth; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Fern; her husband, Bernard Darmody, who died on Jan. 7, 1981; her first husband and father of their children, Alton Lanphear, on Aug. 20, 1982, and her brother, Earl Knorr, who died on Jan. 7, 2002.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday (Sept. 21, 2011), from 10 a.m.-noon at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Wellsville. Her funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours in the funeral home with Rev. Ralph Eastlack presiding.

Burial will take place in Fairlawn Cemetery

memorials in Eleanor’s name may be made to either the Comfort House of Allegany County at 141 E. State St., Wellsville, NY 14895, or to the American Cancer Society.
