Ebba Martha Augusta Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (Larson) FRY
Betty Martha Fry, 99, died peacefully March 21, 2011, at Summerhill Assisted Living, Peterborough, N.H., after a period of failing health.
She was born Ebba Martha Augusta Elizabeth Larson, in Jamestown, N.Y. on Aug. 28, 1911, the daughter of Esther and Gustaf Larson. She was confirmed at the Swedish Lutheran Church in Grassflat, Pa., where she spent most of her younger years. As a teenager, she moved to Williamsport, Pa. to help support her family during the depression.
Fred Fry from Williamsport became her beau in 1928 and they wed on Oct. 5, 1935, the 25th wedding anniversary of her parents. Betty and Fred celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2010.
During World War II and until 1950, Betty was employed at C.A. Reed & Company in Williamsport. She and Fred built a house on Woodland Avenue, which was always her favorite home. They had a son, Stanley and a daughter, Barbara. In 1964 they moved to Morgan Avenue, where they resided until retiring to the Williamsport Home in 1988. In 2006 they moved to Peterborough, N.H. to live near their son.
Betty was an active member of Church of the Savior in Williamsport, serving on many committees, and volunteered at the Exchange Mart in Williamsport for over 25 years. She enjoyed entertaining, playing cards and especially spending time with her sisters and family. Betty was full of life and often played practical jokes on her family and friends. Fred and Betty's long and caring relationship was an inspiration to all who knew them. Although suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past several years, she continued to be loving and kind to all.
Betty is survived by her husband, Fred; a son, Stanley and his wife Cheri of Peterborough, N.H., and a daughter, Barbara Jackson and her husband Tommy of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandsons, Ryan Fry and his wife Bethany of Lee, N.H., Jared Fry and his wife Jennifer of Boston, Mass., Shawn Bair of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dustin Jackson of Orange Park, Fla.; one granddaughter, Danel Bair-Howard and her husband Scott of Jacksonville, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Amber Howard.
