George D. Gardner died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lorena Sheffield, Elm Creek Road, near East Randolph, at about 11 o'clock Saturday morning following a brief sickness. Mr. Gardner had been in very good health and had carried on his usual activities until ten days before his death.
Deceased, who wa son of George Ray and Lurena Crossfield Gardner, was born October 5, 1854, in a log house on the old home farm in the Gardner school district, town of Conewango. Mr. Gardner's passing removes the last of a family of five children. He was married November 11, 1875 to Miss Marcia Ross of Conewango. Four children were born to the couple and are G. Ray Gardner of Olean; Mrs. Beulah Anderson, Ross Gardner and Mrs. Lorena Sheffield, all of Elm Creek, and ten grandchildren. Mrs. Gardner died in July, 1927.
Mr. Gardner was a man very well and favorably known throughout this section where he had been a prosperous farmer and successful dairyman. He was deeply interested in politics and had held positions of trust in connection with his party. Mr. Gardner was also an active member of Emerald Grange. He had lived in or near this vicinity practically his lifetime.
Funeral services were held from the Myers & Myers Funeral home in Randolph Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock, with Rev. Archie Hillard of Randolph Federated Church officiating. Burial was made in the family plot in Conewango Cemetery.
