From the Wellsville Daily Reporter 8 Jun 1937:
Found dead in front of his Proctor Terrace home this morning, the left side of his head riddled by a charge of shot, John Leon Prindle, 47 year old refinery operator took his own life, Coroner Halsey E. Cooley decided today.
Although neighbors said they heard a shot shortly after 9 o'clock Monday night, they attached no importance to it and the discovery was not made until about 6:30 o'clock this morning. Prindle was found lying supine on the ground, his head resting against the low veranda of his home. A single-barreled 12 gauge shotgun was lying across his body. A charge of shot had entered the neck under the lower jaw and emerged from the side of the head.
Coroner Cooley said there was nothing to indicate foul play and that he would issue a verdict of suicidal death. Milo Daley and William Binder, neighbors of Prindle in Proctor district, said they heard the shot and Daley discoverd the body this morning, calling the telephone office, which in turn notified the coroner. Prindle was alone at his home last night. Friends said he was worried over financial and domestic troubles and that he and his wife recently separated. Prindle had been a resident here for seven years and for the past eight years had been employed at the refinery. He was born in Seneca, N.D. July 16, 1890 a son of John and Emma Lunn Prindle. He married Doris Bery (possibly misspelling of Very) on March 3, 1924, who survives together with four children: John Richard, Evelyn Dora, Marjorie and Betty Ann and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Clark and Mrs. Grace Kinnie, Clevland, O; Mrs. Mabel Dixon, Columbus, O; Mrs. Dora Flanders, Schenectady; George Prindle, Rochester; Walter Prindle, Roysford, PA; and Mrs. Agnes Starks, Wellsville. Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday at the Piper funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
