Cuba - Viola May Brown, 83, of 1140 Carpenter Hill Road, Cuba and 100 Highland Common Court, Cary, North Carolina, died Friday, July 7, 2006 in St. Joseph's Manor in Olean following an illness.
Born in West Clarksville, NY on May 17, 1923, she was a daughter of Guy Ellsworth and Florence Williams Hamilton. On Sept. 27, 1944 in West Clarksville she married Francis W. Brown who died on Sept. 25, 1989.
May was a graduate of the Richburg high school and had been employed at Acme Electric Corp., as a nurse's aid at Olean General Hospital, and for 18 years in the Central Services Department of Cuba Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement in 1988. She had formerly owned The Little Diner and a craft shop, The Spinning Wheel, both in Cuba.
She enjoyed sewing, weaving, crafts, reading, gardening and especially spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Brown was amember of Our Lady of Angels Church of Cuba.
Surviving are 2 children Timothy (Judy) Brown, Ellicottville, NY and Bonnie (Ira) Silverman, Cary, NC; 4 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; 5 sisters: Ruth Crittenden, St. Cloud, FL; Aileen (John) Lester, Satsuma, FL; Dorothy (Keith) Van Der Linden, Cuba; Alta Randolph, Collier, West Virginia; Gretchen (Ralph) Lanning, Republic, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers Archibald "Archie" Hamilton and Guy Hamilton Jr., five sisters Pearl Herring, Leola Wiltsey, Marion Hopkins Lundquist, Lillian Kratts and Louise Baxter.
Friends were received at the McIntosh Funeral Home, 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Angels, 50 South Street, Cuba. Father Jerome M. Dissek, pastor, will be the Celebrant of the Mass.
Burial will be in West Clarksville Cemetery, Town of Clarksville.
