William H. Bump Jr.
New Kensington

William H. Bump Jr., 83, of New Kensington, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in Health South, Monroeville. He was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Clymer, to the late William Henry Sr. and Madeline Jennings Bump. He lived all his life in the local area. He was a dispatcher for Conrail Railroad and worked mainly in Kiski Junction and Greentree. He was a World War II Army veteran with the 45th Infantry Division. He received the World War II Campaign Medal with four bronze stars and World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Bump enjoyed carpentry and crossword puzzles. Survivors include his sons, William H. (Kathleen) Bump III, of Huntsville, Ala., and Jeffrey (Shelley) Bump, of Templeton; daughters, Madeline (Russell) Hirtz, of New Kensington, and Barbara (Robert) Solomon, of New Kensington; grandchildren, Ryan and Matthew Hirtz, Michelle Kiley, Brandi Montgomery, Kailey Marie Bowser, William H. Bump IV and Brittany Nicole Bump; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert and Dennis Bump, both of Arizona; and sisters, Audrey (Pat) Silverio, of Chicora, Vivian Murphy, of Atlanta, Ga., Donna (Frank) Tascarella, of Petrolia, and Caroline Conklin, of Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lyda J. McNutt Bump; stepmother, Helen Parker Bump; grandson, Brandon Hirtz; and brothers, Jack, Gerald, Wendell and Richard Bump. Services and burial were private. Arrangements by the RUSIEWICZ FAMILY OF FUNERAL DIRECTORS ARNOLD AND LOWER BURRELL. He was there when we didn't understand. He was there when we cried. He was there when we were wrong. He was there when we lied. Dad was always there. Dad was always there, when we needed him the most. Now that he's gone there is emptiness in our world, but not in our hearts. When our father died, we moved into the empty space he left inside us, we found out it was where we belonged. It is a new place to grow. To the man we call, Bill, Dad and Pap-Pap, we all look forward to seeing you again. And till that happy occasion we wish you God Speed and may God bless you and mom and keep you both in his care. I am certain you continue in your role as a mentor and teacher in the next life, using your time and talents to their fullest as you did here on earth as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and example to us all.

Mr. Bump was buried in Ulysses Cemetery along with his mother, Madeline Jennings Bump.
