Presidents, Soldirs, Statesmen H.H. Haresty Pub. 1892: Enlsited Aug 13, 1861, from Harrisburg, PA., at the age of 18, as a private in Co I, 1st PA., Rifles (Bucktails), Vol Inf., 1st Brig., 3d Div., 5th A. C. He was honorably discharged Dec 21, 1863 at Brandy Station, VA, by reason of re-enlsitment as a veteran in same command. In Dec , 1863 he was furloughed for thirty days from Brandy Station, VA, rejoining his regiment at same place January 1864. In May, 1864, in frontof Wilderness, VA, he was transferred to Co. I 190th PA V I. aug 19, 1864, at Weldon R. R. he was captured and hel at Belle Isle and Salisbury about seven months, then paroled and sent to Annapolis, MD.
Mardh 1865 at Annapoilis, MD, he was furloughed to go home and recuperate. He took part in the battles of Dranisville, Harrisburg, Cross Keys, 2nd Bull Run , South Mtn. Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, Siege of Petersburg and Weldon R. R. and received his honorable discharge May 17, 1865 at Harrisburg, PA. His paternal grandfather, Joseph Wells , served in the War of 1812, as did also the paternal grandfather of hiw wife, Randall D. Tull. Mr Wells was born Jan 10, 1842 in Genesee, Allegany Co. NY and settled in McKean Co. PA in 1858; his father, Clark S. Wells, served in the late war in Co. G 150th PAVI, and is still living. His mother, Esther
(Lanphere) is also living. Aug 8, 1868, he was married in Genesee, NY to Hattie Tull, born Jan 27, 18949, in Bath, Steuben Co. NY. Her parents, Randall D. and Harriet J. (Colegrove), are both living. Two children have been born to them, Ralph B. and Clark R. Comrade Wells has been school director for McKean Co. PA, is engaged in farming and his address is Bells Run, PA.
