Wayland, N.Y. — Leola M. (Baker) King, 88, passed away Friday morning March 2, 2012 at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Leola was born April 3, 1923, in South Lima, the daughter of Joseph and May (Waggoner) Baker.
Although born in South Lima, Leola grew up and resided in Wayland her entire life. She was employed in the food processing business for a couple of different companies. At first she was with Birdseye Food Plant in Wayland and then she was a line supervisor for Kraft Foods in Avon retiring from there after many years.
Subsequent to her retirement, she still enjoyed working as a seasonal employee at Seneca Foods in Mt. Morris.
Leola and Arthur King were married Aug. 1, 1945, in Wayland, and together they celebrated 48 years of marriage prior to Arthur passing away Jan. 21, 1994.
Leola’s hobbies were many, as she especially enjoyed her flower gardens, watching birds and she kept her children informed of the coming storms via the Weather Channel. She enjoyed baking and her family says she made the best Christmas cookies around using a 100-year-old recipe. Another joy of Leola’s was her pets; She always had dogs and cats to keep her company.
Leola was predeceased by her husband, Arthur King; a son, Dennis King; and siblings, Alberta McGann, Oswald Baker, Robert Baker, Alta Weld, Russell Baker and Stanley Baker.
She is survived by her children, David King of Dansville, Robert (Valerie) King of Tennessee, and Roger (Teresa) King of Wayland; her grandchildren, David King, Sara (Fred) McDowell, Samantha King, Skye King, Emily King and Alex King; her stepgranchildren, Nikki King and Shawna King; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Preston and Hunter; her brother, Rodney (Carolyn) Baker of Dansville; sisters, Dorothy Folts of Dansville and Arlene Wisniewski of Rochester; along with several nieces and nephews.
Leola’s family and friends may call today from 1-4 p.m. at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 W. Naples St., Wayland. Her funeral service will be Monday morning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment and committal prayers will take place immediately following at the Wayland Village Cemetery.
