George "Peaches" Thomas
Williamsville, NY - George J. Thomas of Williamsville, formerly of Olean, passed away Friday (April 16, 2010) in Buffalo General Hospital.
Born Sept. 8, 1941 in Olean, he was a son of the late Fomena K. "Flip" Eade Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Olean High School class of 1959 and a graduate of Bryant & Stratton Business School, Buffalo. Following graduation from business school, he was employed by F.W. Woolworth for many years as a Store Manager and then as District Manager in New York, Ohio, New Jersey and Maryland. Following an early retirement from F.W. Woolworth, he returned to Western New York and became the owner and operator of Katter's Kenmore Variety Store and the Discount Wallpaper Outlet in Kenmore. Most recently Mr. Thomas was employed part-time in the sales and audience development department at the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Olean, active with Olean High School class of 1959, a long-time fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and enjoyed time with his companion dog.
He is survived by numerous cousins, including Jim (Connie) Tanous of Erie, Pa., and Paula (Terry) Eade-Newcomb of Buffalo; uncle Joseph (Mary) Eade of Olean; and many close friends including his Olean High School classmates.
In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by granparents, Katter and Libby Eade; uncles, Henry Eade and Mitchell Eade; and aunt, Philomena Tanous.
Family will received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 E. State St., Olean, Funeral services will be held Wednesday (April 21, 2010) beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church at 10 a.m. Father Joseph Akiki, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. An Incense Prayer Service will be held in the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center, 515 Main St., Olean, NY 14760 or the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, 499 Franklin St., BUffalo, NY 14202.
