WALLACE, N.Y. - Margaret May Towner, 85, formerly of Wallace, died Tuesday (Dec. 1, 2009) at the Taylor Health Center in Bath.
Born May 1, 1924 in Cattaraugus, she was a daughter of the late George and Jennie Bartlett Waite. On July 18, 1941, she was married at the Wesleyan Church Parsonage in Cattaraugus to Jesse C. Towner, who predeceased her.
Besides her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her son, Richard Towner, and her sister, Dorothy, and her two brothers, Alfred and Donald.
Margaret resided in Wallace before moving to Macon, Ga., where she was employed as the manager of the Hephzibah Children’s Home. She later moved to Sarasota, Fla., and was employed in the dietary department of the Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Since this past April she has resided at the Taylor Health Center in Bath.
A member of the Wesleyan Church, Margaret enjoyed reading, crocheting and entertaining people.
Her family includes her sister, Erma Fisher of Little Valley; also her nieces and nephews, including Doug Towner, Ken Towner, David Towner, Alfred Waite, Bobby Waite, Linda Waite, Martin Waite, Paul Waite, Beth-Ann Waite, Don Fisher, Jeff Fisher and Lorraine Fisher.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, with the Rev. William Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Sarasota, Fla.
