MRS. JENNIE ORVIS DIES IN ANDOVER
: Andover, Aug. 5 - Mrs. Jennie Mae ORVIS, died suddenly at her home in Water Street yesterday following a short illness.
: Mrs. ORVIS, daughter of JOHN & PHILENA BAKER SWAIN, was born in Andover November 21, 1866. She married ERNEST E. ORVIS, July 10, 1889. For 33 years of their married life they resided on a farm at Hartsville and 16 years ago they moved to their home on Water Street.
: Mrs. ORVIS has led an unusually active life. This was partly due to the fact that Mr. ORVIS has been crippled and Mrs. ORVIS has been his efficient partner in most of his outdoor work as well as caring for the home and taking her part in outside activities. She was greatly interested in church work, along its many lines, having been a member of the Baptist Church since she was a child. She was also a member of the Andover Grange No. 1098.
: She is survived by her husband, two daughters, MRS. JOHN (ESTHER) DODGE, Andover and MRS. EARL (ETHELYN E.) LYKE, Hornell, nine grandchildren and two brothers, (John) EDWARD SWAIN of Andover, ELMER SWAIN of Hornell.
: Funeral services will be held at the late home Saturday at 2 p.m., the Rev. W.C. Gates of Jasper, now acting supply of the Andover Church will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery.
: (NOTE: other predeceased siblings were William Newton Swain, , Samuel Albert Swain, Mary E. Cook, Hester Ann Bines, Charles Seth Swain. THIS ADDED FROM "SWAIN REUNION NOTES")
