Betty Lou LeGro French passed away on July 7, 2015 in Savannah, GA.

Betty was born in Savona, NY on August 24, 1931, the daughter of Harry William LeGro and Lillian Maude Compton LeGro, both of whom predeceased her.

She had three brothers, William and Eugene LeGro (both deceased), and Denny LeGro (Candy) of Ocala, FL, and one sister, Dana (deceased). She is survived by her five daughters from Marshall Howard French (divorced and deceased): Deborah Upham of Atlanta, Andrea Jones of Savannah, Lynell French Marianetti and Leanne French, both of New Orleans, and Alisa Griner (Tossie) of Savannah. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Gregory, Angela, Tarah, (TJ), Trey, (Jennifer), Katelyn, and Annelise, and three great grandchildren: Caden, Landyn, and Chace.

Betty graduated valedictorian from Savona High School in 1948. She was a strong and independent woman who saw few challenges she could not face. She was a no-nonsense, yet loving, mother who set an example for her daughters as a person of principles and hard work. She sewed most of her family’s clothes, tackled numerous home-improvement projects, repaired nearly anything around the house, all while building a successful career in medical record administration (St. Mary's in Rochester, NY, Grady in Atlanta, and Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, among others). She was a woman who defined herself by her professional achievements and spoke with pride of her career until the very end.
Her distaste for cold weather drove her to migrate with her youngest daughter to Atlanta, then Savannah, in the early 1970's, and she never looked back. She became a huge Atlanta Braves fan and was thrilled to attend a 1991 World Series home game. Her four adult daughters ultimately followed her and Alisa from NY because "home" was where Mom lived. All but one of her nine grandchildren were born in GA.
Betty made regular trips to the Savannah Wildlife Refuge in SC. She loved the peaceful drive and spotting wildlife, especially alligators and enjoyed sharing the refuge experience with her children, grandchildren, and her loyal silky terrier, Nina.
Betty worshiped at Cokesbury United Methodist Church. Though unable to attend services as her health declined she remained ever faithful to the Lord.
Betty was a remarkable woman whose strength and determination live on in her family. She will be dearly missed. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Memorial and Hospice Savannah for the care they provided during her last days.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
