Michael A. "Zima" Swinko
Olean - Michael A. "Zima" Swinko passed away Friday (Dec. 9, 2011) at home following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born June 5, 1949, in Olean, he was a son of the late Andrew P. and Jean Kope Swinko.
He was a graduate of Olean High School, class of 1967 and served with the US Marines from 1968 to 1972.
He worked at the American Olean Tile Co. and then was employed at the Cattaraugus County Highway Division until his retirement.
Mike was a member of the St. Stephens Club and was an avid fan of NASCAR racer Joe Nemechek and the Buffalo Bills.
Surviving are his loving companion, Lorraine Chipchack, of Olean, two sons, Jesse (Brandy) Swinko, of Virginia Beach, Va, and Edward Swinko, of Olean, two daughters, Michelle (Todd Morton) Vaughn of Olean, and Amy (Michael) Oherald of Georgia; three grandchildren, Michael Oherald, Megan Swinko and Vincent Morton; an Uncle Raymond (Janet) Schick of North Carolina; and an aunt, Janice (Elwy) Roulo of Portville.
Family will receive friends for memorial visitation from 2 to 4 PM Monday (Dec 12, 2011) at the Guenther Funeral Home, 1303 E. State St., Olean, at which time a memorial and committal service will be held in the funeral home. Father Edward Sheedy, pastor of St. John's Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany,
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Care and Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
