CORNING, N.Y. — Gary O. Costello, age 67, of Corning, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Bath VA Medical Center.
He was born on January 11, 1946 in Wellsville, the son Norman O. and Alberta M. (Austin) Costello.
Gary retired from Dresser-Rand in 2003 following 13 years of service and prior to that he worked at Weyerhaeuser. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1963 to 1967 and he enjoyed fishing, wrestling, and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, children, Gary, Kevin, Jodie, Ty, Shawn, Brett (Kelicia), Eric (Andriena), and Terri Costello, and Holly (Jason) Sauter, sister, Cheryl Fratarcangelo, numerous grandchildren, step father, Gerald Force, and canine companion, Scooby.
Gary was predeceased by his brother, Terrance Knox.
Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 East Pulteney Street, Corning, on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Military Honors and the celebration of Gary’s life will follow calling hours there at 4:00pm.
Burial will take place at Bath National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Those wishing may make donations to Gary's family to go toward funeral expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. |

CAMPBELL, N.Y. — Maurice Joseph Cardinale (aka “Mo” and “Geri”), 91, of Campbell, NY, passed away Tuesday April 30, 2013 at Founders Pavilion, Corning, NY.
He was born in Ferentino, Italy, on May 22, 1921 to the late Ubaldo and Pasqua (Magliochetti) Cardinale.
He served during World War II in the Marine Corps from 1940 to 1944 and married Shirley (Grimes) Cardinale in1947.
He graduated from Upper Iowa University with a BS degree in 1950.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; five daughters: Maryesther Allen of Mesa, AZ, Martha (Danny) Hoodak of Sioux Falls, SD, Christine Forester of Corning, NY, Theresa (Herbert Tobey) Cardinale of San Francisco, CA, and Rosemarie Elliott (Mike Ryan) of Hamburg, NY; and two sons: John (Vicky) Cardinale of Fort Worth, TX, and Thomas (Carrie) Cardinale of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his sister, Anna (Don) Drake, 10grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Maurice was predeceased by his daughter, Catherine Cardinale and granddaughter Kristen Hoodak.
He owned M.J. Tree Service in Campbell, and was a Certified Arborist. Maurice was active in the community, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, Marine Corp League, American Legion, and several fraternal organizations.
Described here by one of his nieces: “-a strong Italian man, WWII Marine, big personality, dearly cherished family gatherings.... whether he was conducting the sing along or declaring "all friendships cease" at the start of a card game, he did for the love of Life!!” He was beloved by many and will be missed.
Friends and family may call Friday May 3, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning. Rosary will be said at 7:45pm. Mass will be held Saturday May 4, at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph's Church, 8508 Main Street, Campbell.
Interment will be Monday, May 6, at 11:00am in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery, Elmira.
