BELMONT — Jeanne E. Howbridge, 95, of 10 McNinch Lane, passed away Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2013) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville with her daughter at her side.

She was born May 12, 1917, in Hammondsport, the daughter of the late Monroe and Bertha (Sedgwick) Ray. On Dec. 21, 1946, she married Howard L. “Dave” Howbridge, who predeceased her on Oct. 19, 1979.

Jeanne was a graduate of Belmont High School. She was employed as a secretary for many years at the Allegany County Soil and Water Conservation Service, retiring in the 1970’s. She was an active member of the Belmont United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, financial secretary for over 50 years and secretary of the Women’s Society. She will be remembered for her precise and often witty minutes. She also served as a Trustee for the Belmont Free Library for several years. Jeanne was a loving and caring, daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy R. Howbridge of Belmont; two sisters, Dorothy Ray of Wellsville and Ruth (Joseph) Brown of Sudbury, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Betty Ray of Horseheads; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased, in addition to her husband, by a brother, S. Bruce Ray.

Friends are invited to her funeral on Saturday (Feb. 23, 2013) at 11 a.m. in the Belmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Hurd presiding.

There will be no prior visitation and burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont.

The family suggest memorial donations be made to the Belmont United Methodist Church or the Amity Rescue Squad.
