Mrs. Thomas Quigley was fatally burned when the sleeve of her dress took fire from the flames as she was fixing the fire at her home. Mrs. Quigley, panic-stricken, ran screaming from the house, but before the fire could be smothered she had been burned almost from her head to her feet.
William White, aged 37, a farmer residing in the town of Caton, had committed suicide, shooting himself twice through the head.

40 Years Ago—Dec 6, 1895
Mrs. E. H. Thompson, a resident of Birdseye Hollow in the town of Bradford,
had died suddenly in the store of Frank Hedges, of Bath.
James Skelley, who had been known as "Martin O’Donnell" since entering
the Soldiers’ Home several years back, was found dead in a corn field on
the Butler lot on the Kanona road. Charles Hoffman, who lived on Hickory
Hill, made the discovery as he was driving by.
The Village Board had refused to extend the franchise for electric lighting
in the village for 45 years.
Miss Minerva U. Howell had given up her position as stenographer in
the law office of Monroe Wheeler of Hammondsport to take a position in
Buffalo.
