Who Served in the Civil War?

This set of pages contains the names of over 1100 men (and one woman) who called Potter County home and served in the Civil War.
Some were born here, others came to Potter County later in life. They all helped make the county what it is today.
We owe them thanks and recognition.

And many thanks to Mary Bryant, Charles & Kathleen Heffner, Frankie Stonemetz, Barb Hyde, and others for a lot of hard work in compiling the list!

National Cemeteries preceded by a ? - Given the number of ~ soldiers from Civil War battles who were buried in the National Cemeteries and lacking evidence that a soldier is buried elsewhere, I have provided the name and location of the military cemetery in which the dead of the battle were buried.

Source Information:
This new Civil War page began as a transcription of the Civil War soldiers pages in History of the Counties of McKean, Elk, Cameron and Potter, Pennsylvania by Michael A. Leeson, Chicago, J. H. Beers & Co., 1890. That information was consolidated with the Civil War service information that was formerly on the Early Military Service page on this website.

That beginning has been amplified with service records from The Pennsylvania Civil War Project from Penn State, the regimental rosters for the NY Civil War Regiments, The National Cemetery Registry, and by information contributed by our users.

If the service record and the burial place are ~, the burial column may contain other information such as a Census or township of residence in the 1883 or 1890 Civil War Pensioners Lists. This information will be in [ ].
