Died Feb 28, 1916 in Bloomer, Dunn Co. WI, Buried Bloomer City Cem. Bloomer, WI.
Israel S Clark b 1834 Troupsburg, Steuben Co., NY enlisted 3/15/1864 from Sharon Twp at Coudersport, PA in Batty G 1st PA Res. Light Artillery and was discharged June 29, 1865 because of disability. He mar Elizabeth Vandermark and later died on Aug 9, 1877 in Clarke Co WI in the town of Withee. He is buried at East Thorp Village Cemetery, Withee Twp., Clark Co., WI. His brother Ezra was actually not discharged until April 21, 1865 according to a letter dated May 27, 1865 from the U.S Army Hospital, District of Monongahela, PA.
by g-g-grandson Harold Zander Israel Clark was a brother to John M Clark and Ezra Clark. Note both John M and Israel are in the same unit.
Lloyd C Lanphere
Roswell Burton, Private, Co. G, 46th PA Infantry, died at Nashville Military Hospital on May 15, 1864, and is buried in the Nashville Miltary Cemetery. He was born in 1826 and, at the age of 38 years, he enlisted in the Union Army on 29 February 1864 at Hebron, Potter Co., PA. He was a resident of Hebron, with his wife,
Diana, and 5 children.
Avery E. Gillmer, Pvt. Avery E. Gillmer of Capain Gordon Company I of the 109th NY Regiment of United states volunteers was enlisted by col. Davis at Owego, N.Y. on January 5, 1864.
He died at 56 years old Oswayo PA. His wife was Julia VanGilder. They resided in Potter County most of their lives.
Stillman, Birney Rufus, (son of Amos Russell Stillman) At age 18, Birney went off to the Civil War with his father Amos Russell Stillman. He suffered a complete nervous breakdown and was honorably discharged from the the 46th Regiment PA Volunteers in 1865. He was not able to serve long because the horrors of war were too much for him.He died in a VA hospital in Washington D.C. in 1885. He was not buried in Potter County. (from family notes compiled by Carol Metzger Wilkerson) We're still trying to locate his grave.
Amos Russell Stillman (Crandall Hill, Hebron Cemetery) Amos "Russell" Stillman was one of the first to join the northern troops when the Civil War broke out, along with his 18-year old son Birney. He was in Sherman's march to the sea. Contracted tuberculosis due to exposure to the elements. He was discharged from the 46th Regiment of PA Volunteers in 1865. Later went to Florida to live at a boardinghouse, thinking the climate would be good for his health. He continued to get worse and finally came home where he died in 1893. Wounded July 1, 1863 in Gettysburg. Commissioned 2nd Lt. April 21, 1864. Jan./Mar. 1865 commanded Co.K Mustered out June 24, 1865 in Elmira, NH. Age 32. Died 1905.
BROWN, Judson Was in the 53rd PA Infantry from Feb. 25, 1864 until his death at Andersonville Prison on July 30, 1864. He was a private in Company G.
SHATTUCK, William L. Jr. "Comrade Shattuck enlisted August 26, 1861 at the age of 28 years, in Co. G, 46th Pa. V.I. 1st Div. 12th A.C. He was enrolled as a Pvt. and won successive promotions to 2nd Sergt., Ord. Sergt., 2nd Leut. & Capt. He was injured in the shoulder in 1864, near Atlanta, Ga. By explosion of shell; previous to this, in July 1863, he was confined in hospital @ Washington & Philadelphia, to Dec 1863, suffering with typhoid fever. August 9, 1862, he was captured at Cider Mt. by Jackson's men, being held at Libley & Belle Isle 6 wks. Oct. 1863 he was furloughed for 30 days; this was extended 20 days and he reported for duty at Deckert Station, Tenn. His battle record in Winchester, Strausburg, Middleton, New Market, Harrisburg, Front Royal, Cedar Mt., Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Lookout Mt., Resaca, Kinston, Dallas, Peach Tree Creek, Lost Mt., Altoona, Atlanta, Milbridgeville, Sherman's March to the Sea, Savannah, and the Carolinas to Johnson's surrender. He was honorably discharged July 30,1865 at Harrisburg, Pa. He had two brothers in the war John & Alonzo, in 149th Pa. V.I. (Bucktails); His grandfather Shattuck served in the Revolutionary War & died in service."
Nichols, Francis P. b. October 12, 1846, d. June 10, 1924. His parents wereMaleck and Cordelia (Perry) Nichols, "enlisted, in 1862, in Company B, One Hundred and Seventy-first Pennsylvania Volunteers, in which regiment he served one year. he again enlisted in 1864, this time in Company K, Thirteenth New York Heavy Artillery, and was honorably discharged at the close of the war." Walton Dwight Capt Co K 149th PA Vol Inf Enlisted 8/16/1862 in Potter Co PA-mustered in as Captain at Harrisburg PA 8/27/1862 - promoted too Lt Col 8/28/1862 POB West Windsor, NY. Occupation before war-Lumber business. Wounded at Gettysburg 7/1/1863 but remained active in the field. Bullet entered upper third of left thigh and splintered outer portion of femur. Resigned from service to attend dying father-discharged 3/31/1864. Returned to West Windsor childhood home and re-entered lumber business. 1870 electeted mayor of Binghamton, NY. Died at age 40 of peculiar circumstances. Widow drew pension on 4/27/1908.
Francis Reed Co F 85th New York Infantry Enlisted September 1, 1861 at Hebron, Potter Co., PA Mustered in at Elmira, NY Dec 3, 1861 Reported sick since June 28, 1862 sent to General Hospital Harrisons Landing, VA Died July 10, 1862, age 23, single, at General Hospital, Philadelphia, PA of Enteric Fever. Hospital number 53. Buried July 11, 1862 at the Lafayette Cemetery, Philiadelphia, PA. Unknown if remains were returned to Potter Co. or if he was later buried in a National Cemetery.

Pension states one eye removed and cannot see well from other eye 1874 removed from Poller Co to Kalkaska, MI and in 1901 to Lowell MI. Died 3/19/1937 Grand Rapids Ml at home of daughter Ella Burt (Mrs Harvey Taylor) Ella Burt dau born 3/22/1877 Howard 0 Burt son born 6/16/1884. Buried- Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska, MI with wife Alice Robbins Burt.
