Loren R. Gale, the last surviving son of W. Gale, after whom Galeton
was named, died at his home in Riverdale. He was born at Windom,
Greene Co., NY. in 1852. He came with his parents in 1880 where
they started the Pine Creek tannery. He was manager of the tannery
until 1897 when he moved to New York City. He was married to Miss
Elizabeth Bentley of Honesdale in 1902 who survives with 2 children;
Loring R. Jr. aged 10 and Lucille aged 7, also one sister, Mrs.

William McClure Gale, the founder of Galeton, died at the home
of his daughter, Mrs. J. F. Arundell, in Brooklyn, NY Sat., May
23, 1903, at the age of 84 years. Mr. Gale from boyhood was identified
with the leather business, and after considerable successful experience
in that line, he located the tannery at Galeton in 1880, one of
the largest in the United States. Galeton was named in his honor
and he lived there until six years ago, when he went to Brooklyn
to reside. He is survived by five children: Loring R. Gale, Mrs.
J. F. Arundell and Mrs. W. F. Osborne of Brooklyn, George E Gale
