son was married and lived in Williamsport. The 2nd daughter Electa
died Jan. 1865 and George, the youngest died in Coudersport Dec.
1881. She had a sister, Mrs. P. C. Slade in Bradford Co. Surviving
children are: Amos Baker of West Pike, Mrs. A. C. Perkins of Coudersport,
Fred Baker of Pennfield. She was married 56 years |

from Bradford Co. to Potter Co. with a knapsack and $3.75 in my
pocket. With my uncle, S. H. Martin of West Pike, I went to the
Daniels District in Bingham and engaged a winter school of John
Jackson, director, at $14.00 a month and board around. Went to Sweden
Twp., attending church services in the old log school house at Raymond
on the way, and engaged a school near Edwin Lyman’s for sister Ellen,
now Mrs. J. M. Spafford at $6.00 a month. Soon after a school was
engaged for sister Harriet near C. L. Corsaw’s at $7.00 a month.
On April 13th, we broke camp at Brookland where we had lived 12
years and moved to this place |

John Bodler died last Friday [8-1-1913] at Germania, the last
one of its pioneers, the survivor of the Civil War. He came to Germania
when a boy of eighteen in 1856. After the close of the war he returned
to Germania and in 1867 was married to Sophia Hubers who died about
5 years ago. Five children, Anna, Henry, John, Frank and Oscar were
born and all survived with the exception of Henry who died at Coeur
De Alene, Idaho. Two brothers, Fred and William and one sister,
Mrs. Augusta Meixner also survives. |
