1923 Mitchell-Vergason Reunion notice clipping

This reunion notice (above) lists the date and place of the first Mitchell-Vergason family reunion. Mrs. Dannie Yentzer was born Nettie Mitchell, daughter of George Washington Mitchell and Lydia Eliza Vergason. The notice was published 14 Jun 1923 as a classified ad on Page 10 of The Potter Enterprise.

The reunion news story (below) appears to list all of the people attending the reunion, including non-relatives. Some of the names and relationships are mangled. The story was published 16 Aug 1923 on Page 6 of The Potter Enterprise.

Note the three spellings of Vergason in the two clippings. None are correct.

The reunions continue today in Coudersport. Written records were kept for every reunion. The records include minutes of the business meeting and a reunion attendance list. Records for the first six years were lost in a fire, and records are missing for a few years. Fortunately, there are news clippings or other records to provide some documentation for the missing years.

In recent years, the reunion president has custody of the reunion records.
