Police blotter listing the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln,
11:00 p.m., April 14, 1865
MAN SENT TO CAPTURE JOHN WILKES BOOTH
HAYNES, Randall born ca 1844 Livingston County, NY. Son of Robert Haynes and Jenette Stivers. Enlisted 7 Aug 1862 at Nunda for three years, Co I, 19th NY Cav. Captured 7 May 1864 at Battle of Wilderness, imprisoned at Richmond, VA, then sent to Andersonville and later paroled but was too ill for active service for several months. Near the end of his term, he was sent to Alexandria, Virginia with other soldiers to capture John Wilkes Booth who was reported as being somewhere in the area. After leaving the service he lived at Coudersport, Pa for a time. While there he was treated for diphtheria & intermitant fever by Dr. Ellison of that place. The veteran suffered from scurvy and rhumatism and died 26 Sep 1902 at Almond, NY
