My great-grandparents, Clifford Newell and Martha Skinner, were from Sherman, NY. I have attached copies of photos that I thought might be of interest to you. Incidentally, my great-grandfather, Clifford Newell was the son of T.J. Newell, listed under the Board of Education of 1902. Martha Skinner (the history and grammar teacher listed on your document) was married to Clifford in 1903. T.J. Newell's home with his wife, Sarah (nee Pitt) was still standing directly across the street from the Minerva Library in 2002. The first photo is from Brocton, NY School. I do not know who the people are in the picture, but I suspect Martha Skinner or her mother, Helen Gibbs Skinner may be one of the teachers in the picture. The chalkboard that the boy in the front row is holding in the Brocton picture says "Brocton, NY School Grammar Grade. In the military looking picture Clifford is the dark looking one with heavy eyebrows, 2nd from the left standing. In the baseball picture he is the one in a suit on the left side of the picture. He was born in 1877, so I am guessing these pictures must be from the late 1890's or early 1900's. He moved to Washington, DC around 1911, so these must have been taken before then.
If anyone can identify any of these please write to us.
