Summer, 1987; Volume 17, No. 2; Edition of "The Newsletter- Cuba Historical Society"
"An old Allegany County Cemetery located near the intersection of Witter
and Shaffer Roads south of Cuba has been cleared by members of the Cuba
Historical Society. The cemetery, which is noted on the 1869 Atlas of Allegany
County, was completely overgrown by briars and sumac bushes.
Marcia and Charles Masser from Cary, North Carolina, had relocated
the cemetery two years ago and told of its location to Craig Braack, the
Allegany County historian. However, the resources to restore the cemetery
have not been available. The Massers have been trying to locate the grave
of Wilford W. BRADLEY, a great grandfather and vetran of the Civil War.
After unsuccessful searches at the several area cemeteries they felt that
this abandoned cemetery would hold the answer to the grave's location.
With help from George and Hazel Spanneut and John and Mae Warren, a
section twenty by sixty feet was cleared and sixteen markers were found.
Five of the stones had only initials. The following data was recorded.
