"Professor, music school director in Friendship, the first institution of musical learning in the United States, begun in March of 1853. Published 8 volumes of instruction books in music. Third of 12 children, growing up in Freindship. Listed in the 1850 census as living in Friendship, Allegany Co., NY. No children at that time and wife was 33. In 1865 census James (45) listed with Harriet (47) wife, Lucy Hale (30) border, Hermes Applebee (34) farmer, Laton Applebee (6) son; James Renwick (33), Electa (26) wife and Stanly (5) son. No children"
