May, 2016 - Changes to Current Members and Member Surnames pages. To safeguard your email addresses from ever more skillful hijackers, the Members and Surname pages have been reworked to remove the email address and to tell you the new way to contact a member with a question or request.

The instructions at the top of each page provide a link that opens an empty email with the required subject line. All you need to do is state your request or question and which member you want to contact. When we get the email, we'll verify your member status and if you are a member, forward your email.

If your computer configuration will not open the email link, you can create your own email. Send it to paint@paintedhills.org and make this the subject: PHGS: Member Contact Request.

March, 2016 - Updating the Painted Hills website. When Painted Hills was started (20 years ago now), we wanted a bulletin board and chat room that our members could use to help each other with research. They were state-of-the-art when they were launched. However, in recent years we have found that neither the Forum nor the Chat have been active. One could even say they have been comatose!

More and more of our members are using the private Painted Hills Facebook group to communicate. Members report that it is more fun and they get better and faster responses from the Facebook Group. Try it!

The Facebook group is open to members only. If you decide you want to participate in the give and take, click on the Facebook button above and then click the Join Group button in the upper right of the Facebook page. We monitor the requests. If you are a paid up member, we'll do the rest.

Even though Chat is closed completely, the Forum will be available for browsing of old posts, but be locked for posting. You no longer need the user name and password, just click the link to Forum.

December, 2015 - A new book set in Cattaraugus County. PHGS member Tim Lake has published a local-history book, Hang on and Fly. The book tells the story of a Cattaraugus County plane crash in 1951. Mary Bryant's mother-in-law is one of the main characters profiled in the book which was completed with some help from Mary.
